Erin Brennand, MD, MSc, FRCSC

Originally from Edmonton, Erin Brennand completed her MD with Special Training in Research at the University of Alberta and moved to Calgary for her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology. After her five years of training, the city of Calgary felt like home and she stayed for her Urogynecology fellowship under the mentorship of Drs. Magali Robert, Colin Birch & Magnus Murphy.

Dr. Brennand started clinical practice in 2013, and came on faculty with the Cumming School of Medicine in 2014 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. She is currently the Urogynecology/Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Program Director. Dr. Brennand’s research interests include surgical trials and the pairing of administrative data with clinical primary data collection to improve the quality of research related to stress urinary incontinence and prolapse surgery. Her work has been sponsored by national (CIHR), provincial and industry grants.

Dr. Brennand completed her Masters of Science in the Department of Community Health Sciences, Cumming School of Medicine under the Supervision of Dr. Hude Quan, one of Thomson-Reuter’s Most Highly Cited Researchers . Her thesis explored the impact of health system factors on the risk of requiring a revision surgery after undergoing mesh based mid-urethral sling surgery for incontinence. Dr. Brennand supervises MSc level graduate students through the Department of Community Sciences, Cumming School of Medicine and is currently accepting letters of interest from potential students in the streams of Epidemiology, Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research.

A mother of three small children, in her (minimal) spare time she enjoys: pushing the limits of gardening in Calgary’s turbulent climate (watermelons!), as well as fermenting and canning the food she grows each summer.
